1959
J. Lewis Cromer was selected to receive the 2007 Platinum Compleat Lawyer Award from the University of South Carolina School of Law Alumni Association.
Richard W. Riley, former S.C governor and U.S. Secretary of Education, and a partner with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, has been elected vice chairman of the trustees of Carnegie Corporation, a New York-based philanthropic organization that awards grants totaling approximately $90 million a year in the areas of education, international peace and security, international development and strengthening U.S. democracy.

Coming B. Gibbs, Jr. was selected to receive the 2007 Platinum Compleat Lawyer Award from the University of South Carolina School of Law Alumni Association.

H. Dave Whitener, Jr. was selected to receive the 2007 Platinum Compleat Lawyer Award from the University of South Carolina School of Law Alumni Association.

J. Howard Daniel, of Greenville firm Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, has been named to Davidson College's Board of Visitors.

Barbara George Barton of Columbia firm Robinson, Barton, McCarthy, Calloway & Johnson, was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy at the National Building Museum in Washington.

Charles W. Patrick Jr. was selected to receive the 2007 Gold Compleat Lawyer Award from the University of South Carolina School of Law Alumni Association.

John G. "Jay" Brown II has been named managing attorney for Buist, Byars & Taylor, LLC in Mount Pleasant, SC.

V. Denise Hamilton has joined the Stanley Law Firm LLC as an associate attorney.

Dale R. "Bubba" Samuels was selected to receive the 2007 Silver Compleat Lawyer Award from the University of South Carolina School of Law Alumni Association.

Ashley Cooper will serve as South Carolina Senior Advisor for Senator and Presidential Candidate Chris Dodd's campaign.

Melinda R. Beres has been made a partner in the lawfirm of Hunton & Williams. Beres is a member of the business practice group in the Charlotte office.
Phillip Ferderigos has become a partner of Barnwell Whaley Patterson & Helms in Charleston.

Mark A. Brunty has joined the Myrtle Beach firm of Mullen Wylie, LLC.
Sam Craig was named as City Attorney for the City of Shelby, North Carolina. He will continue in private practice with Yelton, Farfour, McCartney, Lutz & Craig, P.A., in Shelby, practicing primarily in the area of business litigation.

Kenneth Michael Barfield has been named Special Counsel to the Charleston firm Barnwell Whaley Patterson & Helms.
2002
Matthew Ray Gates married Catherine Lorraine Horne March 10, 2007.
Richele Taylor has joined the Columbia office of McAngus Goudelock & Courie.
2003
Frederick W. "Freddy" Faircloth IV has joined the Rock Hill firm of Hamilton Martens Ballou & Sipe, LLC as an associate. Faircloth will focus his practice in the areas of corporate and business law and taxation. He is admitted to practice in both North Carolina and South Carolina and is a member of the York County Bar Association.
Ed J. Schafer has joined the Municipal Association as legislative counsel. Ed is responsible for lobbying and association legal work.

Sallie S. Holder has joined the firm of Leatherwood Walker Todd & Mann, P.C. as an associate.
Mark Andrew Pepper married Emily Towry in Columbia, SC on March 31.
Lawrence James Purvis, Jr., married Callie Annette Seals on March 31, 2007 at the Wild Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach. He is an attorney with the Law Office of N. David DuRant and Associates in Surfside Beach.
