1941

Hopkins & Campbell, LLP announces that Thomas E. McCutchen has joined the firm as Of Counsel located at 1414 Lady St., Columbia 29201.

1953

Hopkins & Campbell, LLP announces that Hoover C. Blanton has joined the firm as Of Counsel located at 1414 Lady St., Columbia 29201.

1959

Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough Partner Ed Mullins will serve a term on the Board of Trustees of The American Inns of Court Foundation, America's oldest, largest, and fastest growing mentoring organization. Mullins, who also serves on the NCSC board alongside Chief Justice Toal, was elected to represent the Fourth Judicial Circuit.

South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson announced Shell Suber as Political Director of Victory 2008. Victory 2008 is the South Carolina Republican Party's coordinated campaign effort to elect Republicans to local, state and federal office.

1968

Miles Loadholt, a Barnwell attorney, and USC Board of Trustees member since 1996, was elected chairman of the USC BOT, serving a two-year term. Loadholt practices with Motley Rice, LLC.

S.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Toal will serve a term on the Board of Trustees of The American Inns of Court Foundation, America's oldest, largest, and fastest growing mentoring organization. Chief Justice Toal serves on the board in her capacity as immediate past chair of the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) and as immediate past president of the Conference of Chief Justices.

1971

Rogers Townsend & Thomas, PC and Sherwood M. Cleveland, PC announce the merger of their law firms to be known as Rogers Townsend Thomas Cleveland located at 220 Executive Center Dr., Ste. 109, Columbia 29210.

1975

Pope D. Johnson III and Evans Taylor Barnette (class of 1977) are pleased to announce the formation of Johnson & Barnette, LLP located at 1320 Main St., Ste. 650, Columbia 29201.

F. Earl Ellis Jr., of Ellis, Lawhorne & Sims was presented with the worthy adversary award by the S.C. Association for Justice, formerly known as the S.C. Trial Lawyers Association, at its annual convention in Hilton Head Island Aug. 9. The worthy adversary award is a special honor given to an attorney who is honest, well respected among his or her peers, loyal and dependable to his or her clients and, above all, ethical. Ellis's career has focused on workers' compensation matters, representing clients in courtrooms and boardrooms across South Carolina. His clients include textile mills, manufacturing plants, public utilities and large retail establishments in defense of workers' compensation claims. He also serves as lead counsel for the self-insurance funds of hospitals and governmental entities throughout the state.

1976

Attorney L. Franklin "Frank" Elmore was named to a three-year term on the governing committee of the American Bar Association's Forum Committee on the Construction Industry. Elmore practices in the Greenville office of Elmore & Wall, P.A. The appointment was made at the committee's annual meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The ABA's Forum on the Construction Industry is the largest organization of construction lawyers in the United States and abroad, according to a firm press release. The forum's mission is to serve the construction industry through education and leadership -- and it sponsors several seminars each year on different topics. His practice focuses on construction and surety matters. He represents construction and surety clients in litigation, arbitration and mediations throughout the Southeast.

1977

1980

United Way of Florence County Board of Directors recently elected Arthur "Art" Justice of the Turner, Padget, Graham & Laney P.A. as its 2008-09 Campaign Chairman. He has extensive trial experience in both federal and state courts.

1981

South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson tapped Warren Mowry to be Executive Director of Victory 2008 in June. Mowry was Upstate Field Representative for Lindsey Graham's successful 2002 campaign for U.S. Senate. He also served as Chairman of the Greenville County Republican Party from 1999-2001. He was a prosecutor for South Carolina's 13th judicial circuit from 1982-1994.

1987

Nexsen Pruet announced that Cherie W. Blackburn has joined the firm as a Partner in its Charleston office, where she will practice with the employment and labor law group. Blackburn has more than 20 years of experience in employment and business litigation. She routinely advises companies on the requirements of employment law and represents them in employment-related litigation. She has been recognized for her work and is listed in Best Lawyers in America. A certified mediator, Blackburn mediates cases - primarily employment-related - in federal and state court, and is an arbitrator in the Court of Common Pleas for Charleston County.

1989

The American Academy of Appellate Lawyers has unanimously elected Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough Partner C. Mitchell Brown to membership in the prestigious organization. The American Academy of Appellate Lawyers was founded in 1990 to recognize outstanding appellate lawyers and promote the improvement of appellate advocacy and the administration of the appellate courts.

1991

The Law Office of Dean B. Bell, LLC announces that John J. Pinckney has joined the firm as an associate in its Hilton Head office located at 1 Corpus Christie Place, Bldg. 105, 29928.

1992

Smith Debnam Narron Drake Saintsing & Myers, LLP announces that Richard J. Steele has been named a partner with the firm located at 4601 Six Forks Rd., Ste. 400, Raleigh 27609. The firm also announces that Steele will become the managing attorney of the S.C. office scheduled to open in 2009.

Robert M. Deeb Jr. has joined McNair as a shareholder in its Hilton Head Island office. His areas of practice are commercial and residential real estate law. His practice concentration includes real estate commercial and residential subdivisions, horizontal property regimes, planned unit developments and property owner association representation. He also handles commercial and residential property acquisitions and loan closings.

John F. Emerson announces he has become General Counsel for the Charleston County School District located at 75 Calhoun St., Charleston 29401.

1994

Eleanor Duffy Cleary announces the opening of the Law Office of Eleanor Duffy Cleary located at 1720 Main St., Ste. 303, Columbia 29201.

The University of South Carolina School of Medicine/University Specialty Clinics announces the appointment of Byron R. Roberts as Assistant Director of Legal Affairs and Clinical Assistant Professor located on the School of Medicine's Richland campus at 15 Medical Park, Ste. 300, Columbia 29203.

1998

Motley Rice LLC, one of the nation's largest plaintiffs' litigation firms, announces the addition of John C. Duane to its Securities and Consumer Fraud practice group. John Duane is a former federal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of South Carolina, where he prosecuted a variety of cases, including white collar and violent crimes. He brings trial experience and a training background to both the securities and aviation litigation teams at Motley Rice. Duane was the 2004 Assistant United States Attorney of the Year for the Charleston Division. Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney's Office, Duane worked on criminal and civil cases for several years as a law clerk for Senior U.S. District Judge C. Weston Houck.

2000

Gyro Trac (USA), Inc. announces that Jennifer L. Queen has become general counsel to the corporation located at 10 Flying Cloud Dr., Summerville 29483.

2001

Jason Peavy announces the opening of the Law Office of Jason P. Peavy located at 1720 Main St., Ste. 301, Columbia 29201.

2002

2004

Elizabeth Brannon Jones and Tyler Lawrence Arnold were married Saturday, August 16, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. She will be an associate with Weinberg, Wheeler, Hudgins, Gunn & Dial Attorneys at Law, in Atlanta, GA, beginning in September.

Amanda Jean Morris of Chapin and Henry Mills Gallivan, junior of Greenville were married Saturday, August 23, 2008, at Boyce Chapel, First Baptist Church in Columbia. She is employed as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Roger L. Couch in Spartanburg.
