Thomas S. Tisdale, a Member (partner) in Nexsen Pruet's Charleston office, has been invited to become a Fellow in the prestigious Litigation Counsel of America. Tommy Lavender, a Member (partner) in Nexsen Pruet's Columbia office, has been elected as a Fellow by the Board of Regents of the American College of Environmental Lawyers. Lavender practices in the areas of environmental, administrative, natural resources, agricultural, and governmental law. He is a former environmental engineer and staff attorney for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, and is listed in Best Lawyers in America for environmental law. Lavender is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association and its Environmental and Natural Resources Section. He is also on the Administrative and Regulatory Law Committee and is a former member of the Bar's House of Delegates. Additionally, he is a member of the American Bar Association's Energy, Environment and Resources Section and the Administrative and Regulatory Law Section.

The law firm of McAngus Goudelock & Courie is pleased to announce that attorney Weston Adams III has been elected Chairman of the South Carolina Conservation Bank. Adams is a partner at MG&C in the Columbia office. IN MEMORIAM
Ronald Alan Barrett, 63, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009. Born in Chicago, IL, July 8, 1946, Ron grew up in Columbia, S.C., where he attended A.C. Flora High School and the University of South Carolina. After receiving a law degree from USC, Ron served four years of active duty in the JAG Corps of the U.S. Air Force, stationed in New Jersey and Alaska. Ron later served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, retiring with the rank of colonel. After his active duty, Ron returned to Columbia with his family and began a legal practice that focused on domestic law, particularly the rights of children.
James C. "Jimmy" Bryan, 90, died Monday, September 14, 2009. Always active in athletics, he lettered in baseball, basketball and football at Edmonds High; played basketball and swam for the Sumter YMCA, and played American Legion baseball. At 85 he retired from competitive tennis as a state and regionally ranked player having enjoyed many tournaments and tennis trips with his friends. Jimmy served in the Coast Guard during WW II. He attended The University of South Carolina and USC Law School where he served as president of Phi Alpha Deta. He was awarded a Bachelor of Laws and admitted to the S.C. Bar in 1953; he subsequently received his Juris Doctor. He was grateful for the American Legion's leadership in creation of the G.I. Bill which aided his education at USC. He received the Order of the Palmetto and retired from the South Carolina Legislative Council in 1981. During his 28 years, Jimmy served as its first full time Staff Attorney, Chief Attorney, Deputy Code Commissioner, and Assistant Director. Jimmy represented South Carolina at many southern and national legislative conferences during his tenure. Jimmy was an original member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, active in SC State Employees Association, and supported many charitable and cultural organizations.
Jan L. Warner, age 67, beloved husband of Vicki Shuford Warner, died on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at his residence. Jan graduated from Edmunds High School in Sumter in 1960. He was nominated to attend the United States Air Force Academy, where he played football. Jan then received his A.B. and then J.D. degrees from the University of South Carolina in 1968 and earned his Master's of Legal Letters (L.L.M.) from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a Certified Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the American Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar Association, and the American Judicature Society, among other legal organizations. In addition, he was an adjunct professor in U.S.C.'s Department of Neuropsychology.
