Jan Baker teaches Legal Writing I and Legal Writing II in the first year curriculum. Before accepting an appointment to the full-time faculty, Ms. Baker taught Legal Writing as an Adjunct Instructor. She also instructed Law School and Paralegal courses at Florida Coastal School of Law (Legal Writing and Research), Midlands Technical College (Business Law, Bankruptcy Law), South University (Legal Writing, Advanced Legal Writing, Bankruptcy Law), and Florida Community College at Jacksonville (Legal Research and Writing).
Ms. Baker began her legal career as a Law Clerk to The Honorable George L. Proctor, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Middle District of Florida. After a two-year clerkship, she accepted a Staff Attorney position with The South Carolina Supreme Court. Before joining the Law School faculty, Ms. Baker enjoyed a successful career in private practice with King & Dalrymple, P.A., dedicating her practice to representing consumers and small businesses in personal and corporate bankruptcy cases.
Ms. Baker is a member of the South Carolina Bar and the Georgia Bar. She has served as a board member and officer (President 2006-2007) for the South Carolina Bankruptcy Law Association. She was awarded the 2003 William E.S. Robinson Award for pro bono service in the Bankruptcy practice area. She was named the 2003 Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year by the South Carolina Bar.
Ms. Baker is an author, a frequent lecturer and a frequent moderator at Continuing Legal Education seminars focusing on Bankruptcy Practice.
