Professor Gaines joined the USC Law School in 1978 as an Assistant Dean and Lecturer and became a member of the Department of Clinical Legal Studies faculty in 1991. His teaching interests include Criminal Law, Criminal Practice Clinic, Evidence, Pretrial Litigation, and Trial Advocacy. He was Vice-Chair of Common Cause in 1991 and is the former State Chair for South Carolina Common Cause. He currently serves as counsel to the South Carolina Conference of Black Mayors.
