George Edward Prince
1855-1923
George Edward Prince was Judge of the Tenth Judicial Circuit from 1905 until 1923. A graduate of Wofford College, with A.B. and M.A. degrees, he undertook the private study of law in the offices of Wells and Orr of Greenville.
He married Miss Mattie Lander, a daughter of the noted educator, Samuel Lander. He practiced law in Anderson from 1881 until he became a Judge in 1905.
He was organizer of the Anderson Graded School, Trustee of Wofford College, and of Anderson Memorial Hospital, a member of the 1895 Constitutional Convention and served several terms in the South Carolina House of Representatives.
He was an able judge, as well as an excellent trial lawyer. "He graciously counselled young and inexperienced lawyers in questions of law and practice and the high standards of the profession."
