Memory Hold The Door
Harry J. Haynsworth (1859–1941)
Harry J. Haynsworth was educated at Furman University and received an A.B. degree. He undertook the private study and instruction in the law. As soon as he was admitted to the Bar, he began his practice in Greenville.
In 1884, he married Miss Anna Furman, daughter of Dr. J.C. Furman, the President of Furman University. After her death, he married Miss Rhoda Livingston, the daughter of Col. Knox Livingston. A recognition of his great ability as an advocate and as a counselor is evidenced by the important litigation in which he appeared and the large number of corporate clients he counseled. He was a leader in the Constitutional Convention of 1895 for South Carolina.
His motto was “Keep healthy and work hard.” His personal and professional standards were high.
Mr. Haynsworth was the head of and one of the founders of the successful and important law firm of Haynsworth and Haynsworth, attorneys of Greenville. His son and partner was the late Clement F. Haynsworth.
