Mortimer M. Weinberg
1896-1968

Mortimer Weinberg was a member of the Sumter Bar and one of South Carolina's ablest lawyers. Born in Gaffney, he was a graduate of the University of South Carolina in 1915 with an A.B. and Harvard University Law School with an LL.B. in 1919. He was a veteran of World War I. He was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar in 1919, the South Carolina Bar in 1921, and then to all United States Courts. He served on numerous occasions as a Circuit Court Judge.

He married Doris Moses and they had two sons: Mortimer M. Weinberg, Jr. and Perry M. Weinberg, who practiced with him as Weinberg and Weinberg.

Concentrating on his profession, he became an almost ideal lawyer. A constant student, he developed a fine memory and a great store of legal knowledge. His full preparation of each case was an example and a challenge to his fellow lawyers.

He stripped away non-essentials, going to the essence of his cases. His brevity was made more efficient by his deliberate manner and incisive wit.

Gracious, courteous, considerate, helpful, and tolerant of other viewpoints, he was an outstanding trial and appellate lawyer.
