Andrew Burnet Marion
1919-1995

Born in 1919 in York, South Carolina, Andrew Marion was the oldest of three brothers, all of whom became South Carolina attorneys. After completing York High School, he attended the University of South Carolina where he received his B.A. in 1939. Immediately upon completion of his undergraduate degree, he went on to attend the University of South Carolina School of Law, and in 1941 at the young age of 22 received his law degree. While at USC, he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa.

After law school, Andrew Marion joined the Army Air Corps and in World War II served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and finally China. During the war he met his future wife, Evie Canty of Columbia, and they were married in 1946. Andrew and Evie Marion had three children, Andrew, Margaret and Evelyn.

Andrew Marion began his legal practice in Camden, South Carolina, in 1946. In 1953 he joined his brother Francis in Greenville, South Carolina, and became a partner with him at Haynsworth & Haynsworth (now Haynsworth, Marion, McKay & Guerard, L.L.P.), where he spent his entire practice.

During his 34 years in Greenville, Andrew Marion headed the firm's commercial and business practice areas. In 1987 he moved to Columbia, South Carolina, and practiced with the firm's office there until his death in 1995. Among the partners and associates of his firm, Andrew Marion was renowned for his keen legal mind, personal integrity and devotion to the law.
