Milestones: The e-newsletter of the USC School of LawMay 20093L Class Gift Campaign a Success! The Class Gift is a tangible commitment by the members of the graduation class to support the School of Law. Since 2002, class gifts have been established by each graduating class. The Class of 2009 continues the tradition by pledging to make a significant contribution to the building campaign and scholarships. The Class of 2009 has pledged approximately $61,000 over the next five years to support the building campaign. In addition, the class raised $3,000 for scholarships. Leigha Blackwell, during her speech at commencement, let the crowd know that “Despite the dismal state of affairs surrounding our recessed economy, the University of South Carolina Class of 2009 has so much to be proud of. The money raised this year represents the highest gift total since 2007, and ranks our class amongst the top 5 gifts since the 3-L class gift campaigns began.” Kelly Wilson Hall added, “The student meeting room will have a plaque that reads as follows ‘Throughout its three years at the University of South Carolina, School of Law, the Class of 2009 constantly strove to affect positive change for the students, the city of Columbia, and the legal community of South Carolina. Its work for the pro bono program, the Guardian ad litem program, and loan forgiveness program are examples of their dedication to the betterment of South Carolina. The Class of 2009 hopes that its legacy will inspire future students at the USC School of Law.’” When asked why he participated, Adam Brooks Landy stated, “The class of 2009's gift will provide future lawyers with the ability to obtain a first-rate education taught by first-rate professors and adjunct professors! I believe it is robbery if we do not give back a little of what USC Law gave to us.” The 3L Class Gift Campaign Committee members were: Leigha Blackwell (co-chair), Kelly Wilson Hall (co-chair), Suzanne White, Ann E.
