Food Drive
100,000 Pounds of food in just 3 years!!
With a final grand flourish the Class of 2008 accomplished their goal of donating 100,000 pounds of food in just 3 years. This is the first time in the 15 year long history of the "Best Class" Food Drive that a group of law students has accomplished this extraordinary goal. On Monday, March 31st the Harvest Hope Food Bank truck backed up to the front door of the Law School and a human chain of law students loaded the bags and cans.
The results of the Spring "Best Class" competition were as follows:
1L Class- 4,482
2L Class- 2,294 (with a heavy focus on tuna fish)
3L Class- 27,152 pounds
"It was an amazing outpouring of effort and reflects the hard work of many law students," said, Pro Bono Board President, Ben Bruner. "We really wanted to bask in the glory even if for just a few more weeks."
During the week long event hunger awareness information was circulated throughout the law school, especially the effect of the downturn in the economy on the food banks in the nation. Many students commented on how much more food they could buy for their dollars just a year ago but they knew that donating to those who have nothing was an important value held by lawyers.
"I can't tell you how very proud of our students I am" said Pamela Robinson, Director of the Pro Bono Program. "Each semester they amaze me with their generosity, their creativity, energy and willingness to help those who are in need- all the hallmarks of great lawyers and wonderful citizens."
